Healing Money

Resourcing Ourselves 〰️ Resourcing the World 〰️

I’m interested in how resourcing ourselves

helps us feel more able to resource social movement work.

Resourcing Ourselves: Building more self-awareness, capacity for connection and joy.

What moves me? Where in my life do I find nourishment? What are the resources I have beyond money? What resources am I longing to cultivate? How do I want to feel in relationship to myself, my money, my body, the earth, and my community?

Resourcing the World: Identifying how to grow contributions in time, energy, and money.

What are my longings for social change and what are the pathways for me to contribute? How much do I want to give? What outward actions do I feel ready to take without losing track of myself?

I lead from my own experience as a person with inherited wealth who has been organizing donors alongside my own redistribution journey since 2014. Throughout my own path, I have learned the importance of individualized and group support to move through overwhelm, confusion, frustration, isolation, and paralysis.

We need support not only to help us navigate the complex terrain of money, but someone to help us hold the larger picture of social and personal transformation necessary to make sustainable change. Our work is about changing culture, and we are not meant to do this alone.

Money is complicated, and the work we do within our families and in our giving is like working within the open wound of racial capitalism, extraction, and ongoing harm to the earth and to humans. Wealthy people often have complex conflict with family or community members or grantees, intense feelings of shame, and burnout. I welcome those messy places as site of profound learnings when they are held with spacious care.

I am here to help support you with a rigorous and tender heart. It is a deep honor to support people to come into deeper alignment with their values and work in the world. I am here to support you to untangle contradictory feelings and visions and serve as an anchoring presence in your own liberation journey.

Ways to work with me:

  • We will co-create your sessions, and I will let you lead with what feels most alive for you in your work. This could involve talking through a giving plan, processing a conversation with your financial advisor, sitting with a conflict that has arisen around money, or celebrating a step in your money journey. Each session will incorporate embodied practice to support you in staying connected to yourself throughout our session.

    Details:

    • 75 minute sessions, once or twice a month

    • Commitment to 6 sessions at a minimum, with the option of ongoing work

    • Sessions can be held over zoom, or in person in New Orleans.

    • Sliding Scale $150-$250/session

Who am I a good fit for?

    • People wanting to integrate their money story and giving practices more fully into their sense self and/or their work in the world

    • Healers, artists, organizers, weirdos who have inherited wealth who want support coming into a deeper relationship with their money

    • People who want a somatic, spiritual, and emotional container to explore their relationship to wealth and giving

I do not offer (but I could connect you people who do):

    • Long term financial planning

    • Direct Grantmaking support

    • Tax or estate planning

  • If you are interested in engaging your donors in ways that break out of the mold of catering to their needs and are tired of hosting the same types of events (galas, donor briefings, site visits etc.) and instead feel ready to engage with them as partners in your work, I would love to support you!

I work with philanthropic organizations, donor networks, and non-profits looking to more effectively organize their donors:

    • I develop tailored programming and curriculum for your donors. My organizing is rooted in Soliaire’s transformative donor organizing principles.

    • I help organizations more effectively engage their donors in alignment with their organization's mission, both increasing investment in the organization’s issue area, often increasing people’s giving towards your organization and other movement-building work.

    • I work with development staff or EDs to identify where more donor education and engagement could occur. I can help identify places where donors are stuck, where there is more room for growth, and how donor education and leadership development can be folded into existing programming.

Testimonials

“I want to express how supported and held I felt in this workshop. This material is charged, difficult, and can at times be traumatic. The vulnerability that I shared could only have happened in a container such as the one that was created by Willa and Isaac Lev.”

Amelia L., Wealth, White Supremacy and Repair workshop participant

“The somatic element that we brought into every session has now made it possible for me to identify physical reactions to external information in a way that I truly never have before (as a lifelong lover of therapy, I'm shocked that it took this for me to put somatic healing together with learning -- and learning about wealth no less! just wow).”

Monica G., White Supremacy and Repair workshop participant

“I LOVED [THE COACHING SESSION]. It took me in a new direction. I didn't realize I had an agenda, something I wanted to change, and Willa pulled it out of me —and also elicited, through conversation and embodiment exercises, an impassioned, ardent, strong-willed good anger that had been underground for a long time (or surfacing as self-loathing) and is pure and strong, and that I hope will help give me momentum.”

Evie L., White Supremacy and Repair workshop participant and coaching client

“It is the responsibility of free men to trust and to celebrate what is constant – birth, struggle, and death are constant, and so is love, though we may not always think so – and to apprehend the nature of change, to be able and willing to change. I speak of change not on the surface but in the depths – change in the sense of renewal. But renewal becomes impossible if one supposes things to be constant that are not – safety, for example, or money, or power. One clings then to chimeras, by which one can only be betrayed, and the entire hope – the entire possibility – of freedom disappears.”
