Awakening Our Sense of Aliveness

Awakening Our Sense of Aliveness ꩜

Growing our capacity to feel more, break out of stuck patterns, and find more pleasure in our bodies. I offer classes, workshops, and one-on-one work in-person in New Orleans and online via Zoom.

We live in a world that increasingly disconnects us from our bodies and our sense of being a human animal in a larger ecosystem of other living things. Historically, dissociation and disconnection from our bodies are ways that white supremacy and capitalism have functioned. Even as we seek to create change in our world, we can often leave our bodies behind.

Movement, music, and embodied play can bring us back into relationship to our bodies, our imaginations, and give us a sense of our embodied power. Presence, joy, and experimentation live side by side.

Whether it’s in one-on-one sessions or in group work, sessions will leave you with insights, a different sense of your body, and a deeper sense of alignment.

MOVEMENT SUSTAINABILITY is a somatic movement practice that focuses on building awareness and cultivating joy through improvisational tasks. Drawing on the lineages of 5 Rhythms, Movement for Trauma, Fighting Monkey, and other somatic practices, this hour practice offers invitations to reconnect to your senses, body, and environment. Movement Sustainability is a place of building agency, finding play and discovering new possibilities.

Sessions use music and guided movement tasks to explore our physical bodies and our inner landscapes. Throughout the session there will be space made to verbally share any insights, questions, or feelings that may arise, allowing the learnings to integrate more fully into not just our practice but our lives.

Testimonials

“Willa provides structure, presence, and containment while inviting exploration in liberatory movement. In her classes, I have had access to a wellspring deep inside while remaining connected to the community space she weaves with humor and compassion. This movement series really has been the bright spot in my week!”

Angie H., LMFT, Embodiment Coaching Participant

“A beautiful space to come as you are.  I loved the variety of movements and intentional building upon deeper themes related to navigating the times we are in. It felt like a way to tune the instrument that is the body and insights I had rippled well beyond the hour we spent together.”

Working with Willa feels like a journey around, in between, pathways indirect. She knows the body, and the ways it sometimes needs to be courted to arrive in surprising places. When working with her, I always find moments of recognition in the dance that opens me up to everyday life. I find subtle, playful, ah ha moments that remind me of the connectedness of the body, soul, and aliveness. Plus, Willa’s music is so exciting!

“Through movement we become familiar with the messages, stories that we carry in our shoulders, in our hips, between our legs, and under our arms. The body is the gateway to the entire psyche. Through the body we enter into the landscape of our inner world, which includes our feelings, our thoughts, our dreams and our realities.”
